Welcome to Eco-Chateau

FACEBOOK PAGE  Eco Chateau - Co-housing Sustainability Project

We look forward to being a centre for 'the new paradigm', a living, dynamic and evolving 'village', prescribed or limited by nothing more than the creativity, imagination and talents of each and every one who joins in.

We envisage a small eco village that has no prescribed philosophy but that has a commitment to the freedom of each person and a deep respect for each other. From the beginning, we will establish guidelines to ensure this is upheld.

This will be a co-housing village, not a commune - in practical terms, a revival of the model of an ancient village, with collective activities and sharing that supports the private and personal lives of each.  The chateau will form part of the village, providing a space for communal activities. With a combination of generations, talents, skills, equipment and resouces, we will create a strong and thriving place where everyone will be able to contribute something important.

Eco Chateau will operate a community business which will generate an income for those residents who wish to participate. There will be a commitment on the part of all residents to participate in some collective activities but the level of participation will not be prescribed or obligatory.

The vision and aim of the project will be to

  • create a great place to live and work that is dynamic, interactive, wholesome and fun
  • create a centre for learning about sustainable living in all its forms via residential & non-residential workshops and 'eco' learning holidays.
  • help promote the establishment of new and similar projects

Chateau de Cautine is set in a place of beauty and inspiration. In the heart of rural France and 500 metres above sea level, we have 11.5 hectares (27 acres) of fields and woodland, a stream, two wells, underground springs, huge and ancient trees and beyond this, forests, gorges, lakes, riversand mountains. The chateau, set on the edge of a small hamlet, is a 17th century ‘maison forte’, full of wonderful original furniture, history and comforts and houses 18 people.

A poem for Echo chateau

A castle for knights, warriors, jedi and hobbits of the new age.

Come ye all.....
Let us not fight with sabres, swords or guns Nor minds devoid of heart
Let us not separate ourselves
from the song of life
Let us join
our skillful hands
our brilliant minds
our hard work
our beating hearts
Our soul's debt is calling out
to repay all that we have taken
Let us make a castle for the world
of light
of good intentions
of real things
of amazing inventions
And carry this castle we have made
to every corner
where sorry hearts
and suffering bodies
long for refuge

This poem uses the word 'man' in the sense of the Russian definition of 'man' (Chelovek) which means 'eternal mind'.  This meaning is inclusive of men and women.

We await Man

We await Man
with a luminous, transparent heart
A heart that beats to the rhythm of his mind
And a mind that serves his most noble heart
Bucephalus and Alexander for a new age

To catch and taste
the sweat of his brow
to understand
from which longing it came
from love or peace or bounty for all?

We await Man
Who fires the creation
Of a new becoming
In one instant

The space around him illumined
By seeing eyes
And imagining minds
"Forget that this task of planet-saving is not possible in the time required. Don’t be put off by people who know what is not possible. Do what needs to be done, and check to see if it was impossible only after you are done."
Paul Hawkin
